Fort Campbell Women’s Conference!

Fort Campbell had a super cool Women’s Conference on Thursday.  Stefani, Heidi and I were able to go together and we had such a great time!  I wish more people would have come and taken advantage of it!  They offered tons of different classes, but of course I’ll just tell you about the ones we took!  Our first class was Protect and Defend Yourself.   A Clarksville Police Officer came in and basically talked to us about being aware of our surroundings, basic things like that.  He also showed us a few ways to hurt a potential robber.  That was fun!  All and all, good info, but not the funnest class.  After that we went to The Perfect Hair Day class.  We were able to get tons of free samples and we pretty much had these two lovely salon owners answering all of our crazy hair questions for an hour.  It was great!  Mostly because I won a free make over, booyah!

Then we had lunch.  Eh, not the greatest chicken wrap ever.  But really, it was more about the company :)  Then, I won a bucket full o’ car wash goodies.  Haha, let’s go to Vegas, I’m on a roll!  Stefani won a dozen roses.  Poor Heidi didn’t win anything.  But she did stock up her food storage room with boxes of various Pillsbury bread mixes!  I guess you had to be there to see the sheer amount of….stuff….they were just giving away.  We love free stuff!

After lunch we were able to take a cake decorating class.  That sure did humble me!  I know I have a lot of practice ahead of me!  We made clown cupcakes, awww!  They did turn out very cute as you can see from the pictures.  Our last class was Proudly American Wood Craft.  We were able to make and take home an awesome antiqued wooden American Flag.  Fort Campbell rocks!  We had such a great time!

Science Fair-Part Ni (that’s 2 in Japanese!)

The finished product!

The finished product!

So,  the science fair project is compete!  Well, it has been for a while, it’s just taken me a long time to fill you all in on the results!  We took our camera to Wal Mart and printed off  lots of fun pictures he could use to fancy up his project.  Fancy it up in the way only an 11 year old boy can do :)  I had many fun suggestions, but alas, it is his project, not mine!  Yes,  he drew a cookie and a biscuit on the board with a marker.   He didn’t win an award, but took it all in stride.  But you should have seen him fidgeting while waiting for the results to come in!

Kung Fu Cake!!

My friend Lexie asked me to make a Kung Fu Panda cake for her son’s birthday, and this is the result!  His face was so hard!  I know he looks slightly evil.  That’s one thing I’m going to have to work on for the next character cake I do.  Those green squiggles, that’s a vine, in case anyone was wondering :)  He’s holding it and it drapes down to write Happy Birthday.  It was a fun cake to make!  I hope you like it!  Oh, and yes, I do realize that my kitchen counter is still a disaster :)

Science Fair!!!

When I was a kid, I hated the Sciene Fair.  Hated it!  I remember doing one project, and I actually can’t remember what it was  at all.  But I just remember it looking like dookie (it was 1989!) and it was just plain horrible!  I don’t think my parents helped me with it at all.  Anyway, that was the one and only Science Fair project I ever did.  Because it was mandatory!  Never again!

Now, my kids have been getting science fair notices since Kindergarten.  Every year, I throw them straight in the trash can.  But not before  I hear:

“Mom, can I do a science fair project this year?”

“Well son/daughter, are you in the 5th grade yet, when it’s actually mandatory?”

“No Mom, not yet.”

“Then the answer is NO!!!!!  I love you, now go play video games….”

However, time does pass, and I do have a 5th grader this year.  Yikes, I know!  So Logan has to do one.  But what should he do?  We googled science fair project ideas and found all sorts of fun sites.  Oh, but when you click on an idea, you have to pay for the actual list of supplies and what not.  Sigh….What to do, what to do?  Because as any parent knows, just because a project is supposed to be done by the student, the parent has quite a lot to do also!  Finally we had this terrific idea!  What is the difference between baking soda and baking powder?  Perfect for someone who loves to bake!   So off we went to make different recipes and switch out the baking powder/soda in each one.  Oh how fun!  We just finished it tonight, and I think it turned out very well.  Logan had fun and, I admit, so did I.

I’m absolutly not saying that I’ll let my other kids do science fair projects before the 5th grade.  Do you think I’m insane!  I don’t even want to imagine having to help with 3 (so far…) different projects and all the headaches that go along with that.  Hey…do you think that when Jared is in the 5th grade, we could do the same project?  He’ll be in a different school than Logan is right now…..hmmm…..Well, I’ll just cross that bridge when I come to it!
